Английската хевиметъл група Black Sabbath е сред пионерите на жанра. Групата е основана през 1968 г. в Бирмингам от вокалиста Ози Озбърн, китариста Тони Айоми, басиста Гийзър Бътлър и барабаниста Бил Уорд. Групата създаде характерен стил с мощни китарни рифове и хорър текстове.
Албумът Vol.4 от 1972 г. е сред вехите на хевиметъла. Това суперлуксозно бокс сет издание на пет CD съдържа ново ремастерираната версия на оригиналния албум от 2021 г., неиздавани записи в микса на Стивън Уилсън, алтернативни записи на песни като Wheels of Confusion, Supernaut и Snowblind, както и пълен концертен запис от турнето във Великобритания през 1973 г. в микса на Ричард Дигби Смит. Включени са също книга и плакат на групата.
