Принс е бил американски певец, композитор, мултиинструменталист и музикален продуцент. Творчеството му обхващаше широка гама от стилове — фънк, соул, R&B, рок, поп, нова вълна и джаз. Той беше пионер на т.нар. минеаполиски саунд и в повечето свои записи свиреше сам на всички инструменти.
Компилацията The Very Best of Prince, издадена през 2001 г. от Warner Bros. Records, съдържа 17 песни, всички от които са издадени като сингли от студийните му албуми между 1979 и 1991 г. Албумът достигна посмъртно първото място в американската класация Billboard (май 2016) и получи платинен сертификат за приблизително 2,9 милиона продадени копия в САЩ.
