Dream Theater е американска прогресив метъл формация, която е сред най-успешните и влиятелни групи в жанра. От създаването си през 1985 г. се отличава с техническа виртуозност, сложни композиции и сливане на елементи от хеви метъл, прогресив рок и фюжън.
Албумът Distance Over Time е издаден на 22 февруари 2019 г. от издателство Inside Out Music като четиринадесетия студиен албум на групата. Представлява седемдисков Blu-ray бокс, съдържащ 72 записа — освен деветте композиции от албума, включва и техните инструментални миксове и анимирани версии. Целта на групата е била да създаде по-тежък, по-суров материал в сравнение с предишния албум The Astonishing от 2016 г. Сингловете Untethered Angel, Fall Into the Light и Paralyzed са издадени постепенно преди официалната премиера, като за първите два са заснети видеоклипове. Distance Over Time се превърна в най-успешния албум на Dream Theater в класациите до момента — зае първо място в Германия и Швейцария и достигна топ 10 в общо 19 държави.
По време на издаването на албума, Dream Theater бяха: John Petrucci (китара, бек вокали), James LaBrie (вокали), John Myung (бас китара, Chapman stick), Jordan Rudess (клавишни, continuum, lap steel guitar) и Mike Mangini (барабани, перкусии).
